Abstract

Soccer is the largest sport on earth — over 3.5 billion fans, hundreds of leagues, tens of thousands of matches a year. Yet the markets around it are fragmented across opaque sportsbooks with regional restrictions, hidden spreads, and no upside for the fans creating the demand. GoalStake replaces the bookie with a peer-to-peer order book of binary and categorical outcomes, settled by a decentralized oracle.

Anyone, anywhere, can take either side of a market — from "Real Madrid wins UCL" to "Haaland scores 30+ Premier League goals" — at prices that reflect the live consensus of the entire market, not a bookmaker's margin.

The problem with sports betting today

Bookmaker margin

Traditional odds bake in a 5–8% vig. Sharp traders are limited or banned within weeks.

Geographic gating

Most books are unavailable to users in dozens of countries — KYC, region locks, and licensing walls.

Opaque settlement

Disputed results, voided bets, and rule changes happen with no recourse for the user.

Zero ownership

Users generate the volume but capture none of the upside. The house always wins.

The GoalStake protocol

GoalStake is a permissionless prediction market protocol built around three primitives:

Markets

Each market is a smart contract issuing outcome shares that pay $1 in USDT if the outcome resolves true, $0 otherwise.

Order book

A hybrid CLOB + LMSR pool lets retail trade with tight spreads while market makers provide depth.

Resolution

Results post on-chain from Opta data feeds, with a 24h $GSTAKE challenge window before final settlement.

Network

Deployed on BNB Smart Chain (BSC) for sub-cent gas and 3-second blocks. USDT (BEP-20) is the quote asset. Bridging from Ethereum, Polygon, and Arbitrum via Stargate/Wormhole.

Market categories

Match

Result, both teams to score, total goals, first scorer, clean sheet, red card markets — opens 7 days before kickoff.

Tournament

Winner, top scorer, stage of elimination, group winner — long-dated season markets up to 12 months.

Player

Season goals, assists, MVP, Ballon d'Or, transfer destinations — settled on official end-of-season stats.

Season

League winner, relegation, Champions League qualification, manager of the year.

Resolution & oracle

Every market specifies a resolution source (default: Opta) and an oracle (default: UMA's Optimistic Oracle). Within 6 hours of the final whistle the proposer posts the result on-chain. A 24-hour challenge window allows any $GSTAKE staker to dispute the outcome by escrowing a bond. Disputes are resolved by a vote of $GSTAKE holders, with the losing side's bond redistributed to honest voters.

This makes settlement transparent, reviewable, and economically secured — fans police fans, not a corporate trust & safety team.

$GSTAKE token

$GSTAKE is the protocol's governance and resolution token. Total supply is fixed at 1,000,000,000 with no inflation. Stakers earn from three flows:

Fee share

0.2% of every trade flows to the staking pool, distributed pro-rata in USDT each epoch.

Dispute bonds

Honest voters in resolution disputes split the losing side's bonded $GSTAKE.

Liquidity rewards

Bootstrapping emissions reward LPs on priority markets during the launch season.
